Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the top-streamed track within 6 months. The song was a mix of reggaeton and pop, which not only brought new attention to reggaeton, but more interest in Latin music. In 2015, there were two predominantly Spanish-language tracks on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's chart-topping success in 2017, 19 songs mainly composed in Spanish made it to the top 100. The number grew to 41 in 2020. When Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, popular artists started to work with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together to record MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna and Maluma worked together on Medellin and Medellin in 2019 At the time of 2020, some reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at its inclination towards mainstream. But a fresh generation, namely Rauw Alejandro wanted to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. It often blended elements from electronic dance music, as well as different types.
